LET THERE BE LIGHT

Selecting light fixtures is one of my favorite aspects of designing a space.  Every room should have a hint of sparkle and lighting is a great way to incorporate that bit of shine.  I tend to be drawn towards more updated traditional fixtures than to anything too modern.  It’s always smart to choose pieces that will stand the test of time if you don’t want to have to redecorate in the near future.  One trend that I’m currently loving– but am a bit wary of– is brass.  Gold tones are all the rage right now and although design has evolved immensely since the 80s, there’s a thin line here between dated and current.  Check out some of my brass and gold picks below that are spot on in up-to-date design.  Circa Lighting created their classic Darlana lantern with delicate, modern lines and the perfect gilded tone.  They utilized a similar finish, but more antiqued, on their Hicks pendant and Paris Flea Market flush-mount chandelier.  Flawless.  Lulu & Georgia added just a hint of gold to their Audrey table lamp to create the perfect detail to their timeless design.  These companies know how to do brass and gold right!  Of course every space is unique and there are so many lighting finishes to choose from.  Some of my other favorites include glass, chrome, polished nickel, and classic iron.  Restoration Hardware’s Odeon Glass Fringe Chandelier is a departure from my more traditional taste but I couldn’t help but fall in love with the Art Deco design.  Plus, it reminds me so much of The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (my wedding venue!)  I love it when good memories play a part in interior design.  It always make a house feel more like a home.  Here are some of the current lighting fixtures that I’m loving:
